In February 2015, Crooked Stave released Progenitor, a 6.2% ABV dry-hopped Golden Sour Ale. Progenitor NOIR is a little bit of a different take, using dark malts to create a "Dark IPA," for lack of a better term, while still being primary fermented with Crooked Stave’s mixed culture of wild yeast and bacteria.
"Progenitor NOIR arose from the idea that Dark IPA is tasty, so why not a sour version for the darker months we are enjoying." -- Chad Yakobson, Crooked Stave Owner/Head Brewer
While both Progenitor and Progenitor NOIR received ample dry hopping, Progenitor NOIR was concocted to have a fresh, resinous hop bite. Thanks to great hops like Amarillo, Citra and Simcoe, Progenitor NOIR is a hoppy sour worth seeking out fresh to enjoy the full citrusy, resinous goodness!
