Pours opaque. In inch of frothy, mocha foam covers. Great retention, becomes slightly rocky as it does so. Lacing is there, somewhat sticky.
Aroma of chocolate, traces of caramel grain, and orange.
Taste of roasted and chocolate, with the roast stronger. Some caramel. Hops are orange in the middle, giving way to lesser orange, floral and spice in the end. Late, lite banana that lingers with the bitterness (but not as long). Some perceived malt bitterness as well.
Medium body, medium carbonation. Creamy, at times. Hints of boozy bitterness linger at times as well.
Above average but not great, just like most black ales. I would have it again, but I don't know if I would pay for it. Enjoy!
