Pours with a nice, almost frothy, half-inch of mocha foam. Retention isn't there but the coffee probably has a bunch to do with that fact. No lacing as the beer is quickly void of foam.
Aroma is of Granny's house after dinner when she was brewing coffee the old fashioned. Hints of caramel sweetness. Hints of char and roast. The coffee may be so over powering to lead to one-dimensional.
Taste is coffee up front with hints of sweetness. The middle is where this beer begins to take a turn, unfortunately for the worse. Char, ash, tobacco and a roast bitterness take over and ruin this beer.
Medium body. Medium carbonation. Dry finish. Acrid bitterness that builds, lingering. Char, almost ashy finish as well.
The aroma lead me to childhood memories while the taste reminded me of why I don't like coffee: bitter, dry, acrid. The finish to the taste was almost unbearable for me. Unbalanced. Enjoy!
Update: after the palate gets destroyed and accustomed to the harsh finish it isn't a brutal as it is initially.
2nd Update: wanted to have this again (had to, had a 4 pack) to give it a fair chance. Maybe mellowing, maybe my mood but the beer wasn't so rough in the taste as originally: big chocolate, coffee, and ashy bitterness. Both the taste and overall scores have been amended.
