My first beer since a big weekend up in Racine, WI at the Great Lakes Brew Fest. Poured into my favorite mason mug cloudy with about a quarter inch of light tan foam. Not much retention as can be expected with a small amount of head. Splotchy lacing.
Aroma is huge on malt with a small amount of hops bearing it's head to offset that huge malt backbone. Malts are all over the place: sweet caramel malt, roasted, chocolate, and burnt. Some dark fruit peaks its head out also. Nice on the olfactories.
The taste begins with sweet and chocolate malt with a slight creaminess, followed by a middle with mainly hops and deep/dark fruit (plum/raisin), and finishes with some roasted and burnt malt notes. Some roasted/burnt malt in the after taste to boot.
Good amount of carbonation and heavy almost syrupy in the mouth. Very nice combination for the brew.
This is a really good beer from FFF; probably my favorite to date. It could also be that I haven't had a beer in five days, but the sweet goodness of this nectar more than hit the spot. Enjoy!
