  • Received as a gift from a neighbor. Thank you Miles.

Poured dark as midnight into my snifter. A nice inch of bubble, foam that ran away, quickly forming just a ring around my glass. A little bit of blotchy lacing.

Aroma was of chocolate, dark fruit, molasses and a lot of malt. Roasted and burnt malt with some hints of coffee (maybe expresso since I a not a coffee guy). Bourbon alcohol scents show in the end.

Taste is complex and huge like the ABV and very similar to the aroma. Chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, sweet, coffee, and malts all combine to make an extremely big beer that is enjoyable while slowly reviewed. Can feel the heat from the alcohol on the way down.

Thick almost chewy body and ample carbonation to hold up this big beer. Somewhat oily at times and definitely creamy.

A big beer drinkers delight. Complex, heavy, filling, and delicious. This beer was bottled in November, 2008 and, I think, could easily be cellared for another year or two to let it mellow and age. I will be purchasing my own bottle to cellar and compare down the road. Enjoy!
