  • Poured with a half-finger of tan foam. Good retention with some sticky lacing hanging out; mainly from when the foam receded.

Aroma has coffee, smoke, and some dried fruits. Booze is one of the bigger parts of the nose even though it really isn't big on the sniffer.

The taste has molasses sweetness up front before moving to the bigger, bolder more complex flavors of the beer. Dark dried fruits bask in the glory of the alcohol. Coffee and smoke play a minor roll. The finish is long and harsh; it needs to age to relax a bit.

There is almost no carbonation relying on the thick, heavy body to carry to the beer. Dry finish.

I think I am more of an English barely wine fan as I enjoy the sweet more. It could also be the overwhelming amount of alcohol in this one that turns me off as the finish is, putting it mildly, harsh. Enjoy!
