  • Poured opaque with a beautiful light brown, frothy foam which meandered slowly back to beer level. Blotchy lacing left behind.

Aroma is very faint. Roasted flavor is also very light for a stout. No coffee and no chocolate. I get really the oat aroma and that is about it.

Taste is were the coffee comes out. Bitter chocolate in the end with coffee almost from the start. Nice hop flavor actually at the beginning that is muddled by the coffee and chocolate. Tone done those two flavors and let the hops come through; hmm onto something here.

Medium or better carbonation with a heavy mouth feel. Slight creamy in the pie hole too.

For being named java head the coffee aroma and flavors are much more subdued than expected. A layered beer that doesn't really bring those layers together well. Above average but just lacking a little something. Enjoy!
