Poured clear yet opaque. More thick, frothy, tan foam poured into the glass than did liquid. Great retention with the foam becoming more frothy as it recedes. Thick, sticky retention.
Aroma has roasted malt up and in your face. Coffee is there too but he overall aroma is on the week side.
Taste is lots more roasted malt. I seem to get a deep coffee and/or chocolate flavor too - maybe from some black patent malt. There is a bit of coffee and smoke in the finish and after taste.
Medium bodied with about the same amount of carbonation, maybe a little less. I expected some creaminess or "coating" from the oats but never had that sensation.
This is back to basics in terms of a stout. No frills, no chills, just straight forward and delicious. A good addition to the seasonal rotation. Enjoy!
