Norm's Raggedy Ass IPA

Griffin Claw Brewing Company

American IPA

5.2 by scot have another Norm's Raggedy Ass IPA by Griffin Claw Brewing Company

Pours with a couple of inches of pure white foam. Frothing as it recedes, it has good presence. Sticky lacing begins immediately. There are some micro-floaties. Aroma is herbal. That's about it. Taste is bland as well, outside of the herbalness that is in the aroma. Building bitterness that is old school. Body is light, almost watery. Light end of medium body. Surprisingly doesn't dry the palate completely but there is a residual bitterness, not harsh, just lingering. No date on bottl...read more

Blow Your Face Out

Roak Brewing Co.

American Imperial IPA

7.6 by scot have another Blow Your Face Out by Roak Brewing Co.

Bottle marking: MFG 2/02/17. Pours hazy with limited white foam. Retention is the same. Sporadic but sticky lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, pineapple and hop resins. Clean sweetness, minimal. Taste hop forward again. Clean sweetness mingles with the hop bitterness to give a smooth finish without much, if any, bite. Medium thick, creamy. Carbonation fits the beer well: medium. Dries the palate some but not bone dry. Possibly past the it's peak. I can only rate the beer in front of ...read more

Forest Queen

Lost Forty Brewing

Milk/Sweet/Cream Sout

6.9 by scot have another Forest Queen by Lost Forty Brewing

Pours opaque with nearly a half each of deep tan, close to mocha colored, foam. Foam is gone quickly. Ring that is left leaves some juicy lacing the quickly retreats. Aroma of dark but sweet chocolate, thoughts of a brownie with chocolate chips. Roast and char add delicate complexity. Creamy. Nice. Taste is less than desired. The character of the aroma is blended rather than complex. Maybe this is skill but bigger hopes. Everything is light: chocolate, roast, char and sweat. Mouth is ...read more

Petite Sour - Raspberry

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project

American Wild Ale

8.8 by scot have another Petite Sour - Raspberry by Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project

Pours clear with a pure white foam. Retention is average for this style of beer which still makes it disappear in a flash. No lacing. Aroma of raspberries, tart, wheat and hints of oak. Quite straight forward. Taste is sweet raspberry up front that quickly is defeated by tart and sour, Light body with big carbonation. Dry. A easy drinking beer. The berries come through adding great nose and mouth without the huge sweetness from the fruit. Solid. Enjoy!...read more

The Devil's Intention

4 Hands Brewing Company

American Stout

6.7 by scot have another The Devil's Intention by 4 Hands Brewing Company

Pours with a nice, almost frothy, half-inch of mocha foam. Retention isn't there but the coffee probably has a bunch to do with that fact. No lacing as the beer is quickly void of foam. Aroma is of Granny's house after dinner when she was brewing coffee the old fashioned. Hints of caramel sweetness. Hints of char and roast. The coffee may be so over powering to lead to one-dimensional. Taste is coffee up front with hints of sweetness. The middle is where this beer begins to take a turn, ...read more

Cream Stout

Ozark Beer Company

English Stout

7.9 by scot have another Cream Stout by Ozark Beer Company

Pours with an inch of mocha foam; dark beers give the best head. Retention is average for style, receding almost completely. Lacing is juicy and thick but runs back to level. Aroma screams dark malts: roast, bitter, dark chocolate, and a bit of char. Caramel balances the dark bitterness. Taste is slick, slightly oily and sweet up front. Middle is joined by roast and baker chocolate. Char, almost smoke, accompanies in the end, into the finish. Touch sweet as well. Light end of medium bod...read more

La Maison

Taxman Brewing Co.

Saison

6.9 by scot have another La Maison by Taxman Brewing Co.

Canned on 2/6/2017. Pours crystal clear. Half-inch of snow white foam. Quickly recedes. Nary any lacing. Aroma is subtle but floral, herbal, pepper and off the shelf saison yeast. Not quite what the can declares on the side. Taste is more of the same. Finishes quickly. Bitterness builds: herbal and pepper. Finishes dry. Medium body. Carbonation is light, small bubbled. Not crisp. A nice offering but nothing out of the ordinary. Would like to have had it less than two months old as...read more

Lupine

Pipeworks Brewing Company

American Imperial IPA

4.2 by scot have another Lupine by Pipeworks Brewing Company

Pours clear with a nice inch of white foam to top. Retention was average. Minimal lacing. Erased my review to not sound to negative. The hops used in this beer make the aroma and flavor a complete turn off for me. The mix of hop(s) was not for me. One of the few beers from Pipeworks I have not liked. Enjoy!...read more

Mango Guppy

Pipeworks Brewing Company

American IPA

9.4 by scot have another Mango Guppy by Pipeworks Brewing Company

Pours clear with a nice white foam to cover; an in inch thick. Retention is mediocre at best. leaving behind nary a clue to earlier glory. Lacing is sporadic but exists. Aroma is nice. Tropical pineapple, citrus and pine. Pleasant. Notes of honey. Taste follows the nose. Honey is subtle at best. But the mango comes through either because of the hop addition or the mango itself. I say hops as it is tropical. I feel that mango by itself is more herbal/green in taste/aroma. Finishes dry...read more

American Imperial IPA

Batch 014. Released 2017-04-08. Pours opaque. In inch of frothy, mocha foam covers. Great retention, becomes slightly rocky as it does so. Lacing is there, somewhat sticky. Aroma of chocolate, traces of caramel grain, and orange. Taste of roasted and chocolate, with the roast stronger. Some caramel. Hops are orange in the middle, giving way to lesser orange, floral and spice in the end. Late, lite banana that lingers with the bitterness (but not as long). Some perceived malt bitterness...read more

Snapper

American IPA

8.7 by scot have another Snapper by Logboat Brewing Company

Canned 04/11/17. Poured with a slight haze (chill?) with an inch of pure white foam to cover. Foam hangs around for a nice time. Lacing reminds me of light meringue. Aroma has a base of caramel. Pine, lemon, orange and floral. Some hop resins. Candy like. Caramel up front into the middle with touches of grain and cereal picking up in the middle, lasting to the finish. Hops build in the middle: orange, floral and pine create a pleasant trio. The orange lingers. Light end of medium body...read more

High West-ified Imperial Coffee Stout

Lagunitas Brewing Company

American Imperial Stout

9.2 by scot have another High West-ified Imperial Coffee Stout by Lagunitas Brewing Company

An inch of creamy mocha foam coats. Great retention. Lacing is thick and sheeting. Bourbon, vanilla and chocolate are prominent. Coffee with sweetness: molasses and brown sugar. Tastes follows the nose. Bourbon, vanilla and chocolate. Coffee is a bit bigger here but still subdued. Sugars are in the middle to finish, being fought off by the dark malt, alcohol and rye. Mouth feel is light end of big. Carbonation is light to medium. Creamy, silky but no syrup or sticky. Dry while leave ...read more
