Pours opaque black. Huge amount of tan, creamy foam is brought out on a vigorous pour. Average retention with nary any lacing.

Aroma of chocolate, light roast, and the coffee shop. The coffee shop aroma just reminds me of the myriad of related coffee scents you pick up upon entering. Oak, bourbon, vanilla, and brown sugar develop as it warms and opens up. Alcohol.

Taste is rich. The finish carries bourbon, oak, coffee, chocolate, cream, and alcohol burn. Brown sugar sweetness is adds the richness with the creaminess from the foam carrying it. The coffee (is it just one coffee) is there as a flavor to the beer not to hide a flawed beer behind it. Well done.

Huge body with a bit more carbonation than it really needs, which is a minor distraction. Dry. Rich.

I can't believe this is the first beer I have officially reviewed on the site with all the variety of Revolution beers I have had over the years. Cafe Deth is an outstanding example, a huge beer, but amazingly with balance. An expensive 12 ounce beer but you won't regret it. I would have this beer again. Enjoy!

Beer Notes
  • A weaponized quantity of freshly roasted whole bean coffee from Dark Matter Coffee Roasters imbues our Deth’s Tar Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout with assertive coffee aromatics without overshadowing the base beer on the palate.
