  • Appear/Aroma: Deep ruby brown and reasonably foamy head. Pleasant roasted malt nose.

1st Taste: Subtle sweet, with a very light sour. Viscosity leans a little to the thin side. After a few sips a bitter, bakers chocolate taste comes through.

Overall: First, drinking the bottle in May and the best by date was in March. It's a solid drinkable brew, that's on the lighter side of the style. It's got a reasonably attractive flavor. It's highly carbonated and finishes clean. I'd have it again.

  • Poured clear and a bit opaque. The foam was 3/4 of a glass, brown, frothy, and thick. Retention was average while the retention was quick to exert itself: sticky, yet not thick, and patchy.

Aroma is roasted malt up front. Chocolate and cocoa lend a bitterness. Dark fruit and a touch of cherry. The cherry might even lend a little tartness.

Taste has maybe a touch of cherry tart mixed with sweet and roast up front. The roast and tart seem to linger. Some dark malts start to show through near the end. Chocolate/cocoa and coffee subtleties come through nicely in the very late end.

Light end of medium body with light carbonation.

Not a bad porter with some good complexity. The cherry tart was a little off for me but overall a solid beer. Enjoy!
