  • A-Amber Brown with slightg red tint. Normal larger bubbly, tan head with average retention.

    S-Very seductive. Grapefruity, with some orange, then sweet malt, and faint toffee notes.

    T-Semi-sweetness, then some hop bite, and perhaps some spiciness. But the hop bitterness is in no way lingering. And, with more sips the grapefruit flavor totally balances out any sweetness or bitterness. Creamy taste, but mouthfeel is slightly thin.

    D-This is a sophisticated brown ale. But, it also easy to drink for a "bitter" brown, and I could definately drink it year round. It's a West Coast version in my opinion, and for me that's totally meant as a compliment.

  • Pours cloudy with a quarter inch of brown foam that hitches a ride off the top of the brew quite quickly. Lacing is there but only once sipped.

    Aroma isn't bad but there just isn't enough of it to make it easy figuring it out. Toffee sweetness is probably the first scent I can make out. Grapefruit and orange hops give some depth but that is about it.

    Taste has medium malt that includes toffee. Earth malt starts quick and hangs out through the finish. The end brings in some bitterness that is sharp and lasting: grapefruit mainly.

    Light end of medium body with a prickly carbonation that seems to aid the beer. Drying on the palate.

    A quality brown ale with a nice west coast twist of a grapefruit hop presence. An easy drinking but not refreshing beer, that I think would be good year round. A little bolder on the sniffer would round this beer out well. Enjoy!
