Pours cloudy with a big, two inch , frothy, tan foam. Retention is above average while the lacing is minimal.
Aroma is big on the sweet malts. Slight alcohol with a side of dark fruits that are a pleasant addition to the caramel and toffee sweetness. Wood, like oak, come through faintly.
Taste follows the nose with a bit of hop resin and bitterness in the finish. Sweet malts abound from the beginning through to the end. Booze touches the back of the throat and continues to warm. A swarm of dark fruits add complexity.
Medium body with a medium carbonation in spite of being two years old.
The alcohol comes through enough to make this one a sipper. The sweet malts are high, taking away from the drinkability too. Possibly on the thin side for the style. I guess it sounds like I am beating the beer up, but it is above average and something I would like again. Enjoy!
