Pliny The Elder

Russian River Brewing Company

American Imperial IPA

9.3 by scot have another Pliny The Elder by Russian River Brewing Company

Bottle date: 2018-05-21. Just under 3 weeks old. Pours clear. More than an inch of thick, small bubbled that are tightly packed, foam. Great retention: lasting and lasting. Thick, sticky, and lasting lacing. Aroma of pine and citrus, orange, great the sense on the pour. Lightly sweet. Taste has a touch of sweetness up front that quickly lets go. Pine, citrus and even herbal hops. Grapefruit. Bit of grapefruit, pine and herbal linger, adding a light bitterness to the finish. Medium ca...read more

Distant Land

Saison

7.6 by scot have another Distant Land by Prairie Artisan Ales Brewpub

Pours brilliantly clear. Huge, pure white foam. Retention is nice. Thick lacing that recedes, leaving partial thick rings. Aroma of light cracker mingles with subtle sweet and brett. Brett is bright, pleasant. Touch of Belgian yeast. Taste has back end fruitiness. Belgian yeast, brett and cracker sweetness merge nicely. Medium body. Effervescent. Small bubbles create a pleasant and ample carbonation. Bone dry. A very light and subtle beer. It is complex but simple, almost too sim...read more

Hopfentea

Berliner Weisse

8.1 by scot have another Hopfentea by Perennial Artisan Ales

Pours clear with a couple of inches of light pink, large bubbled foam to cover. Retention is solid. Sporadic and spotty lacing. Effervescent. Aroma is strong lactic. Non-descript fruit with light hints of herbal tea. Taste is huge hits of lactic that build into the middle only to succumb to a finish that . Lightly fruity up front. Tropical fruit is maybe as close as I can get as a descriptor. Somewhat sweet that is swatted away by the lactic acid to pucker somewhat. Light to medium bod...read more

Vanilla Option #2

Rock Bridge Brewing Co

Milk/Sweet/Cream Sout

9.0 by scot have another Vanilla Option #2 by Rock Bridge Brewing Co

From a can with no date. Pours opaque. An inch plus of beautiful mocha foam covers. Retention is great. The foam thickens, creaming up as it recedes. No lacing up front but thick rings cling to the sides occasionally. Great looking beer in the glass. Aroma is vanilla and sweet. The sweet eventually lead to the milk sugar, yielding a creamy sweetness. Sweetened, white chocolate scents are there as well. No coffee as the can states. Taste doesn't let me down. Similar but not a acute to...read more

Si Cerveza - Barrel Aged

Logboat Brewing Company

American Pale Ale

7.4 by scot have another Si Cerveza - Barrel Aged by Logboat Brewing Company

Date on can 2018-04-25. Pours with a big chill haze. More than a finger of pure white foam covers. Retention is average but leaves sporadic lacing in its' wake. Aroma is lime foremost. Grapefruit is strong as well. Mild malty sweetness. Reminds me of doing a tequila shot - not a good thing for me. The taste is hard to describe. Too much seems to be bumping into each other. Lime/grapefruit is there in the finish, lingering slightly. Definitely a sweet side of things. Lightly bitter. ...read more

Brewligans

American IPA

From a can without a date. Pours cloudy, extremely so. Inch of pure white foam covers, thickening as it meanders back. Spotty but sticky lacing. Aroma, aroma and more aroma. Big orange and tangerine. Sweet pineapple, mango and papaya. Solid. Taste isn't as inviting nor as juicy as the aroma. Still the tropical and citrus fruits exist. Sweet. Nary any bitterness. Big carbonation surprisingly keeps the body on the thin side. Juicy yet drying. Another solid hoppy offering from 2nd shi...read more

No date on can. Pours perfectly clear. Huge foam, half glass, of thick, off-white foam. Retention is outstanding. Lacing is almost immediate: thick, sticky and a bunch of it. The glass has been webbed. Aroma is big on grapefruit, pith/flesh and resin. Sugary sweetness. Light nights of orange and/or tangerine add complexity. Taste follows the nose. Bitterness is there but not huge, sharing time with less abrasive citrus. Grapefruit with hints of orange/tangerine. Medium or better mo...read more

American IPA

8.8 by scot have another Little Big Hop by 2nd Shift Brewing

No date on can. Taking a chance but I was assured by the store associate this was fresh. Pours cloudy with a finger of off-white foam. Retention is average. Lacing is thick but mostly recedes back to level. Wow, this does smell fresh. Pineapple, mango and papaya fill the sense quickly and fully. Resin and juicy citrus play a cool melody. Sweet. Taste isn't as intense as the aroma. Grapefruit and lemon bitterness builds. Fruit mingle more with malt here. Neither is over powering but f...read more

Riwaka Sour

Big Thorn Farm

American Wild Ale

8.6 by scot have another Riwaka Sour by Big Thorn Farm

Pours perfectly clear. Big, two inches or more, of pure white foam. Retention is not quite average. No lacing. Aroma is barnyard: hay and horse for sure. Assuming the Riwaka hops have fallen at this point. Brett is solid but one noted. Taste is crazy surprising and great! The Brett in the aroma is more in your face but tart, not quite sour, but hedging that way. Funky finish. Medium body, possibly less. Great carbonation for the style, seemingly fighting the acidic tartness for balanc...read more

Date on can: 2018-04-10. 10 days old, should be really fresh. Pours with a light haze. Huge white foam covers. Average retention: never completely dissipates. Surprisingly, No lacing.n Aroma of orange is the star. Light sweetness, not caramel, and hints of wheat. Herbal/earthiness is there as well. Taste is very similar to the taste. Orange builds from middle to end. Minimal to no bitterness. There is a earthiness to the finish that lingers some. Mouthfeel is on the light end. Ligh...read more

Serpent's Stout

The Lost Abbey

American Imperial Stout

9.3 by scot have another Serpent's Stout by The Lost Abbey

One of my favorite stouts. It has been eight years since my initial review. As always, I must comment on price increase: $3 for the same size serving? Notes only on differences: Not as bitter. More balance and smooth finish. Licorice is subtle, building as it warms. Booze is smoother in the taste. The warmer this beers gets, the deeper and complicated this beer becomes. Drinking over a period of time makes for a wonderful adventure for the sense. I would have this beer again, over and o...read more

From a can dated: 2019-02-19. 53 days in the can. Pours clear as a whistle. An inch of light tan foam pleasantly covers, blanketing the liquid below. Retention is great: big bubbled and lightly frothing. Lacing is immediate, thick and sticky. Aroma is hop forward with caramel malts balancing. Pine with a scoach of grapefruit. Hints of herbal/earthy tones show up. Taste is more complex and malt forward than the nose. Toffee in the finish with a nuttiness that is pleasant in the style. ...read more
