Imperial/Double India Pale Ale

Aroma: Well done hop balance of citrus, fruit, light floral, and very light piney. 1st Taste: Pronounced hop fruitiness, and a nice malt, carmel sweetness. Overall: Tape loop, complexity and balance equal great brew...and this is one. Appropriate hop bite. Really pleasant to drink. Very intriguing taste and compellingly creamy feel. You name the honey sweet fruit flavors, cause there are as many as you can imagine. The alcohol is there, but warms without overwhelming. FFF very, very seldom dis...read more

Aroma:Big solid foam head, made the first sniff problematic. Subtle citrusy and exotic fruity hop smell. Inviting is the word. 1st Taste: Real nice mellow flavor. Definate grapefruit, but a cool tropical fruit variation. Overall: OK, I hate to repeat myself too many times, but great beer are complex but balanced...and and this brew is both. Sophisticated is the descriptor that comes to mind.Taking a full swig I get this really nice blend of sweet biscuity malt, caramel, deep flavor tropical fr...read more

Poured clear into my mason jar glass. Foam, tons of it. Retention is outstanding and causes the foam to become somewhat frothy as it recedes. Sticky lacing just on the retention of the original pour. Aroma is, unfortunately, not as big as expected. Still pine and citrus (tropical fruit like) aromas are the center piece. Of course there is the balancing sweet malt. Taste is a quick hit of sweet. Hops is the biggest as is expected. Pine and citrus with a big aftertaste of bitterness that ...read more

Poured very cloudy with a finger of while, big bubbled foam. Retention was minimal. Aroma is big on lemon. Malt, spice (hops), floral, fruity sweet, with a hidden sense of booze. Taste is very malty but a straight up malt: not sweet. Spice and booze come out in the middle. Both stay with into the end. Grapefruit hops and bitterness to the end and finish. Bitterness stays with you. Light on carbonation with a very surprisingly light mouth feel. The booze is really pronounced. My first ...read more

Aroma: Fruity and flowery. Like it. 1st Taste: Fruity sweet, then quickly the hop bite. And cloudy compared regular lagers. Overall: Not as heavy as I thought it would be. This is probably our first Lager review since the past summer. Quirky taste, or maybe it's just cause it's seldom made style. It's got a hop bitterness. I know it's Imperial, but it's still surprising to get this kind of abv hit in a Pilsner. And the fullness has now creapt in. Liked it, but could handle a sixer in one sitti...read more

Poured opaque with a beautiful light brown, frothy foam which meandered slowly back to beer level. Blotchy lacing left behind. Aroma is very faint. Roasted flavor is also very light for a stout. No coffee and no chocolate. I get really the oat aroma and that is about it. Taste is were the coffee comes out. Bitter chocolate in the end with coffee almost from the start. Nice hop flavor actually at the beginning that is muddled by the coffee and chocolate. Tone done those two flavors and l...read more

Poured cloudy with two inches of off-white, slightly frothy foam. Good retention with nice, sticky, web like lacing. Aroma is awesome hops. Pine and citrus hops smack your nostrils with their goodness while floral notes are on the back side. There is a pleasant sweetness that bounces around for balance. Taste is a comfortable infusion of pine with grapefruit and floral having a side job. The sweetness is there once again for balance. Floral is in the finish, not bitter, but also aroma lin...read more

Explosion. Half my beer poured out on the table. What a mess. Worse than my kids. Poured cloudy into my pint. Had more foam than you could shake a stick at. Retention was pretty good and it left a sticky, web like lacing. Aroma is tame but there is citrus, floral, and a nice fruit scent. Sweet caramel malt backbone. Taste is bready and sweet malt up front with grapefruit and lemon in the middle. Pepper and bitterness hit in the finish with both continuing into the end. Medium body w...read more

Poured clear with over an inch of tan, thick, and frothy foam. Fair retention with the foam frothier as it receded. Aroma hits with mostly smoke up front. Bread and grain malt with a touch of molasses/toffee like sweetness. Taste wasn't quite what I expected. The smoke, almost barbecue like, takes the spot light. Bready, chewy malt seems to be up front. Seems to finish with more malt. Surprisingly thin on the body with very mild carbonation. The smoke was a little overdone in terms of t...read more

Poured opaque since the blackness was so dark. Foam was brown but barely enough to mention. Retention was less as it quickly became nothing but a ring around the glass edge. Lacing is slight and blotchy. Aroma is dark fruits: maybe plum and raisin. Dark roasted malt with chocolate undertones. Seems to be some sweetness: molasses, as it seems big and thick. I get a fair amount of alcohol, almost bourbon. Taste is rich malt with roasted malt giving off coffee and chocolate, leaving a bitte...read more

Poured clear with a small amount of white foam that didn't last. Splotchy lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus and floral hops up front. Sweetness from the malt is the backbone. The malt also gives off a bready aroma with a resinous hops. I also got hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet from the malt up front to help balance the resinous, pine hop bitterness in the finish. No hops to begin and the floral and citrus hops seem to be nonexistent on the tongue. Bitterness stays for a while. Heavy end o...read more

Pours clear into my miniature snifter. A quarter inch of white, soft bubbled foam coats the beer. Retention isn't that good but there is some blotchy lacing to go along with the beers blotchy covering. Aroma let's you know that it is Belgian. Fruit and spice that are typical with sweetness from what seems to be Belgian candy sugar. Pepper is there from the yeast but the hop profile baffles me. Wow, different. Those were the words I said out loud after taking my first sip. The hop prese...read more
