Part of my four beer sampler at the brewery. Pretty clear overall with some slight, blotchy lacing throughout. Aroma had citrus hops with a sweet caramel malt backbone. There also seemed to be a nice floral hop addition that played nicely with the citrus. Taste is floral, citrus, and sweet as expected from the nose. Poured into a sampler glass at the brewery slightly cloudy. Foam was gone by the time it reached my table. In spite of that, good legs. Aroma was slight but built on malt, specifically caramel with a nice touch of sweetness. The taste follows very closely to the aroma with the malt being big, large, and in charge. Poured with a finger of brown foam that had average retention. Lacing was sticky and all over throughout. Aroma is big on biscuit malt. Chocolate and roasted notes also hit the nose. Not that big on aroma. Taste is chocolate, roasted, even coffee, with some hop and coffee bitterness in the finish. As I breath after a sip I get coffee up through my nostrils. Aroma: Biscuity with low citrus hops underneath. 1st Taste: Smooth as silk. Overall: Very nice heavy brew. A sophisticated blend of west coast brewing in an old english style which becomes something unique. GF's website says UK hops, surprises me. The 8.8% abv is invisible and it easy to sip away at this brew. Definately in my top 3 of this style. Love the biscuity, coffe aroma when taking another slug of this black gold....read more

Poured with less than a quarter inch of brown, bubbly foam. Retention was minimal. Hit or miss blotchy lacing. Aroma is molasses, sweet, and roasted to begin. Alcohol is present along with some cocoa. Taste is molasses and sweet but as it transfers to the end, ugh! I don't know what it is, but maybe a mixture of the cocoa, roasted, and oatmeal. Aroma: Smooth smokey chocolate and coffee. 1st Taste: Surprisingly light versus the aroma. Overall: I'm not a big Guiness guy and this beer seems fairly similar. To it's credit it's got more personality and I could drink more of these than the stuff from Ireland. If you like the style, you should try this beer....read more

Poured clear with a foam that was as big as the beer volume I poured. Bubbly, tan, becoming somewhat frothy as it receded. Aroma is chocolate, smokey, coffee, roasted, and a throw in of sweet. Taste in negligible sweetness that is quickly engulfed by chocolate, coffee, and roasted flavors. Almost no carbonation and a super light body. Finishes dry with slight chocolate creaminess. Aroma: Nice piney, citrus hop blast amped up w/ lemon and orange zest (although zest is very much in the background). 1st Taste: Hop bitterness is quickly mitigated with a non-sweet maltiness. Medium mouthfeel. Overall: Another Short's unique take on a style. Dos IPAs can easily just be a hop bomb. Poured with a ton of floaties and even more left in the bottle. Nice inch of large bubbled, white foam. Retention was pretty good. Lacing was blotchy and throughout. Aroma is sweet up front mixed in with citrus hops bitterness. There is a tropical fruity element to the nose also. Taste is sweet caramel up front with some slight fruitiness. Poured cloudy with a big, fluffy, white foam. Great retention with some sticky lacing. Aroma sweet with lots of floral and fruit. I imagine the floral and fruit are derived from the hops. The overall is light on aroma and definitely not a west coast APA. Taste is, ummm, strange. Sweet is quickly lived. There is some bready malt and citrus hop presence. Aroma: Pretty straight forward APA. 1st Taste: Nothing wrong, slightly under taste level I'd expect. Overall: OK beer, not offensive in any way. Just thought it would have more personality. Nicely carbonated, a smidegon more of malt, citrusy hoppiness. Looking at other reviews, wondering if we got an "old" bottle.
