American Porter

Poured with a finger of thcik, light brown foam into my snifter. Some retention and lacing. Chocolate and coffee join together to make a very nice aroma. Roasted malt adds to the complexity. Roasted malt with a bit of sweet up front. The middle has some fruit and mild yeast. Finishes with creamy chocolate and mocha coffee. Medium level of carbonation and good body. The transition through the middle of the taste is really interesting and sort of nice transition that I thought help make th...read more

Lucky 13 Ale

Lagunitas Brewing Company

American Amber Ale

7.0 by scot have another Lucky 13 Ale by Lagunitas Brewing Company

Another Lagunitas beer with a big head that, in this case, was off-white and fluffy. Beer poured clear. Big malt with some mild grapefruit hops scent. The malt is sweet caramel. There are some mild fruity esters. Big sweet caramel malt up front on the taste. Finishing with grapefruit and some bitterness. A mildly carbonated beer with a medium beer. Complex. Would enjoy another but not right after this one. The sweetness of the beer seems to coat the palate making it difficult for me to...read more

2009 Correction Ale

Lagunitas Brewing Company

American IPA

Aroma: Hit's a the style character of the rush of american hops...fruit, citrus, and a litlle floral. First taste: Hops are there, but surprisingly low key for a 74 IBU. A little sweet, a little malt, but finishes fairly crisp. Overall: It took me awhile to appreciate IPA's. The crisp, clean character of American hops help. And the Californian breweries seem to be making this style their own. I like the balance between the malt sweetness and soft hop bitterness. Also, the brew made interestin...read more

Poured into my mason mug with three fingers of white, fluffy foam. Average amount of retention and some lacing. My nose is happy after sticking in my glass several times. Grapefruit hops and sweet malt are the big aromas from this beers. Fruity esters lightly present. Sweet malt starts the taste off. There is much of a middle as it quickly transitions to grapefruit hop and grapefruit bitterness to finish. Low to medium carbonation and smaller bodied. A crisp, easy drinking beer. We're Only In It For The Money

Lagunitas Brewing Company

Belgian Tripel

Aroma: Fruity, spiced malt. Appealing introduction. 1st Taste: Complex and hard to pin down a specific flavor. Very much blended and balanced. Overall: This beer works well for me on all levels. Smell and taste gives impression of an impending heavy experience but it finishes very subtle. It's got alcohol but faintly in the background. I believe the fruitiness is from the yeast and doesn't get carried away. Seems totally on track and in the style definition, maybe out Belgianing the Belgians. ...read more

Poured slightly hazy (chill haze, but I thought I let it warm up enough) with three fingers of frothy, off-white foam. Fair amount of retention and some nice lacing. The aroma has some sweet malt, yeast, and some spices. There is also a hint of some fruity esters. The taste starts with malt and a bit of creaminess, followed by some bitterness and spice, quickly finishing with wonderful fruity esters. A little alcohol on the finish also. Medium carbonation and the ABV helps to give this a l...read more

The off-white, thick head filled my 20 oz. snifter to almost over flowing. Good retention and spider web type lacing (Spiderman was trying to climb out of my glass - pesky bastard). Impressive. Beer poured clear. Citrus and pine hops intermingle with sweet caramel and bread malt to offer an nice aroma. Taste of pine and grapefruit up front, both subdued, quickly changing to the sweetness of the caramel and bread malt, ending with stronger injections of the same grapefruit from the beginning...read more

Poured into my Dogfish Head snifter glass (thank you Ed) clear with an inch of off-white, medium foam. Retention was mild with the same amount of lacing. Surprisingly, since I know this is a huge hop bomb, this has a nice blend of piney and citrus hops along with sweet, caramel malt on the nose. There is also the scent of alcohol. Wow, I didn't expect this. This beer is somewhat on the sweet side. No ridiculous bitter after taste, just a smooth taste of sweet, caramel malt, piney and grape...read more

Poured into a pint glass with over an inch of nice thick, off-white foam. A little darker than most pale ales. A fair amount of retention with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is a good mixture of sweet caramel malt and citrus hops (grapefruit). Overall the aroma is on the slight side. The sweet, caramel malt is up front while the middle transitions from the caramel malts to grapefruit hops, with it finishing hoppy with some bitterness. The bitterness is definitely not over the top. A g...read more

American Brown Ale

Pours clear with a finger of off-white, thick foam. Head quickly disappears but there is some good lacing. Aroma is of sweet malt, bread, caramel, slight nuttiness, and citrus hops. Nice blend for the nose. The flavor starts out with sweet, caramel malt followed by a little nuttiness and bread. The end is all citrus hops. It is a blast of hops that finishes with some bitterness that quickly dissipates on the palate. Medium carbonation and body, this beer seems to be a good brown ale with ...read more

Maharaja

Avery Brewing

American Imperial IPA

Pours clear with four inches of thick, fluffy, white foam. A very appealing beer to the eye. The aroma is all hops, baby. Piney hops is the winner with some citrus undertones. Sweetness from the malt are also evident. The taste starts off with some sweet malt, followed by a middle of some floral and then finishes big with the piney hops. A big hop bomb that does a really great job balancing the flavors so the bitterness doesn't overwhelm. Medium carbonation and body. Nicely balanced for ...read more

Pours clear with a finger of white, foamy head. Aroma of sweet malt and damn good piney hops. Some fruit but the hops is really well balanced. Taste starts off with sweet malt and sweetness from fruit, followed by fruity/floral notes, and finish with piney hops with no bitter after taste. Low carbonation and a medium body. This beer is really well balanced and transitions nicely throughout the tasting. This might be one of the better IPAs I have had. Nothing is forced and it is welled bal...read more
