A week after visiting New Glarus I finally decided to crack open the first beer that I bought while on the brewery hop. This is New Glarus's flagship beer and probably my favorite of the different varieties I have tried to this point. You might think this review will be biased but the beer is good, period. Poured the beer into my Spotted Cow glass I picked up on the brewery hop. It had a half finger white foamy head, with little retention and lacing. The aroma hints of lemon (lemongrass?) w...read more

Aroma: Standard IPA hop, but less piney more floral. Initial taste: Fairly straightforward IPA, slight slant to th sweet side. Overall: I've got respect for the New Holland group, they seem very serious about their craft. My initial thought that I was drinking just anotyher IPA. But, upon further reflection this is big sweetness, big hops, and big alcohol that blend very well together. The alcohol level is very much hidden (careful amatuers). I've got to try this again to be fair....read more

Poured without any head, so I can't say much about the retention and lacing. The aroma is that of hops, pine, and some malts. The taste follows the aroma. There are some citrus undertones. The pine comes through from start to finish and seems to have a little stronger hop/pine finish than Über Sun from Southern Tier, which I believe is far better over all. They do a great job hiding the high alcohol content and there is some sweetness. Nice job of balancing everything together. Not a...read more

Little to no head, retention and lacing follow. Small amount of carbonation. Spice, yeast, and coriander all seep their way into my nose. The spice aroma is the strongest of the three and actually a little overwhelming to me. The spice reminds me of some of the heavily Christmas spiced beers. The taste is surprisingly carbonated. The aroma is also right there as I tip my mason glass; once again the spice is overwhelming and probably distracts from the real flavor of the beer. The alcohol ...read more

Aroma: Wow, helluva lot going on here boys...fruit, spice, hops, and alcohol...Mr. Adams you have my attention. First taste: The taste matches my description on smell. Very complex, and definately a style bender/breaker for a Wit beer. And, the Sammy trick is that 10.3% ABV doesn't overwhelm, but there's a nice warm feel to it... in my tummy. Overall: There's a ton of shit to say about Jim Cook / Sam Adams / Boston Beer Co that I'll save for a later rant. When I bought the 4-packer, it was w...read more

This is my first Southern Tier. I have heard a lot about this brewery and it seems that most enjoy almost anything they brew. So I thought: "self, time to try one." Wowzers! Imperial IPA overload. Two finger head with average retention and lacing. Has the aroma of hops and citrus (touch of wheat). Hops floods the taste buds followed by some citrus with a bit of hops and small touch of alcohol aftertaste. Medium creamy mouth feel. Well balanced. A refreshing beer that has a nice alcohol...read more

Aroma: It's a big-ass Imperial IPA, with a straight forward smell. Initial taste: The IPA signature strong hops balance a very sweet wheat to a perfect blend. Overall: I'm working on my appreciation of IPA. And with great brewing skills that ST apparently has in the execution of this big IPA, I'm starting to understand beer geekdom's affection for getting all hopp-ed up. You can miss the hops in Uber Sun, unless your taste buds were ripped out. But great ingredants, brewed in perfect balance re...read more

I decided after yesterday's success with Two Brothers to try another. Also, it is serving as pre-gamer as Rich is coming over for a few tonight! Out of the bottle the beer pours clear, deep amber in color, little white foam with the same amount of retention and lacing. The aroma is that of sweet malt. A hint of earthiness and caramel are in there also. Above average amount of carbonation seen in the beer but the bubbles are smaller than "normal" so they don't affect the taste. The flavor c...read more

I have had Two Brothers beers' in the past and didn't seem to like them. Maybe I didn't know how to appreciate them. I am giving them another chance. Pours with almost no head - white is the color of what is there. The color is a tad clearer than a "normal" Hefeweizen. Carries the aroma of clove, slight banana ester, and even yeast. The flavor follows the aroma with a strong clove and yeast, with some mild banana. Tasty. Average body. Overall, has the true Hefeweizen character. Another...read more

This is a Coors product so you get what you expect from a macrobrew brewery: light in color, flavor and aroma. Pours with a three finger, white foam with little retention and some lacing. There is an above average amount of carbonation (normal for a macro brew). To the nose the wheat comes out distinctly. Some citrus also surfaces. Beer starts off sweet malt, light citrus, and finishes off with some honey. A crisp, clean beer that isn't complex but is definitely refreshing while sitting ou...read more

Didn't know what to expect before I opened the bottle. The beer looked light and the label mentions it was brewed with agave and poppy seed flavors. So off to the website I went without popping the cap; just staring at the bottle and wondering what refreshing goodness lay behind the sealed bottle top. The website has a special mini-site just for their line of odd notions beers. They give the visitor the ability to give feedback on each their three odd notions: spring, summer, and winter. My...read more

The bottle calls it "The Hefeweizen!" so the pour was as expected: golden, unfiltered, about a finger of white head, and, this one, had quit a bit of carbonation. Retention is average. Wheat taste isn't as strong on the palette as it was on the nose. The slight hint of lemon carries through (made with lemongrass - what is it?). Light body and mouth feel. High carbonation tickles the nose. The smell of wheat overwhelms the old nose. Maybe a hint of lemon. Krieky, this goes down way too ea...read more
