American Ales: American Pale Ale
An American take on an English style which is cleaner than the English counterpart. Moderate or better hops, possibility of fruity esters from the yeast, and some malt presence. Pale gold to deep amber with moderate body and equivalent or better carbonation. Shares some characteristics with American Amber Ale.
- Color: Straw to light amber
- Clarity: Chill haze is acceptable at low temperatures. Hop haze is allowable at any temperature.
- Malt Profile: Low caramel malt aroma is allowable. Low to medium maltiness may include low caramel malt character.
- Hop Profile: High, exhibiting a wide range of attributes including floral, citrus, fruity (berry, tropical, stone fruit and other), sulfur, diesel-like, onion-garlic, catty, piney, resinous and many others.
- Bitterness: Medium to medium-high
- Fermentation: Fruity esters may be low to high. Diacetyl should not be present.
