Sorachi Ace was bred by Dr. Yoshitada Mori, in the 1970s and released in 1984, while working for Sapporo Breweries with a goal of producing a hop similar to Saaz.
Bred from Saaz and Brewer's Gold, with that offspring then crossed with a Japanese male (BeiKei No. 2).
Sorachi Ace, brewed by Brooklyn Brewing Company, brought this hop some fame. Those hops were from U.S. hop farms. Sorachi Ace is small time and, currently, only grown in the United States.
NOTE: the hop grows differently in the U.S. than Japan: less yield, lower alpha acid, etc).
Note: No single hop can duplicate due to distinct flavor/aroma.
