Eastern Gold was developed by the Kirin Brewery Ltd. Hop Research Farm in Iwate, Japan. Lineage of C76/64/17 and USDA 64103M, a male parent open pollinated from Wild American hop developed at Wye College, England.

Eastern Gold exhibits high alpha acid with good storage stability. Not longer grown commercially.
