Quicky: Molassaes sweet oat-y aroma. First taste is all sweet with some dark fruit in the background. Oatmeal Stout style is one of my favs. This brew is not.
Poured opaque with as much foam as beer in the pint glass. Tan, frothy, and big bubbled. Retention was really good. Blotchy lacing.
Aroma is sweet molasses, oats, and some wet cardboard.
Taste is very sweet in the finish that starts in the middle. Too sweet. Sherry flavors in the finish too. A little chocolate/coffee bitterness in the after taste.
Minimal carbonation and a big end of medium body.
I am trying really hard to like Stoudt's beers but the last two (Triple), including this one, are way overly sweet. This beer shouldn't have been hurt by a year of cellaring unless it sat in a liquor store or in the wrong environment. I would like to try this fresh to see if there is a difference. Enjoy!
