S: Smoked malt with sweet chocolate. Thought I detected something else, then lost it.
T: Very smokey at first, then it fades. Fairly refreshing overall, not full and finishes very dry. No sweetness and not much in the way of taste flavors. Hop bitterness build after multiple tastes. There's probably citurs hops but they blend into th big multiple hops and kind of negate each other to some extent.
D: Very drinkable and kind of likeable. Not enough personality to make it great.
Poured opaque with a beautiful, frothy, tightly packed, light brown foam covering the beer in my snifter. Retention was above average with the foam condensing and thickening throughout. Lacing is somewhat sticky and lasting.
Aroma is most noticeably roasted malt. Sweet chocolate is also there coming in close behind the roasted scents. A fresh citrus nose is on the back end.
Taste is a flash of sweet up front followed by a quick transition to dry, roasted malts. The finish brings some bitter chocolate and roasted malts which are fought off for balance with some citrus hops.
Medium body with a light carbonation that seems more prickly up front. Dries the palate a lot.
This is a very dry beer making it very difficult for anyone to conceivably have more than one. Still a solid stout with good balance, nice aroma and flavor. I would have it again but not back to back. Enjoy!
