Poured clear with three-fingers of off-white, almost tan foam. Some retention and no lacing.
Aroma has big malt: caramel and sweet bread. Slight toffee or molasses scents to boot.
Flavor starts off with sweet malt to get the taste buds going, followed in the middle by some caramel and even toasted malt, finishing with some bready notes. Not really much hops to notice. Maybe a little spice in the aftertaste.
Carbonation is fairly light. Mouth feel is high end of medium, almost creamy at times. Enjoyable.
Big time malt explosion, which is what Oktoberfest is all about in my opinion. Maybe at tad heavy for summer but Illinois turns to winter in a matter minutes. My first Oktoberfest of the season and I was not disappointed. Enjoy!
"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than selfish and worry about my liver.'" - Jack Handy
