Banner Hops: Profile & Substitutions
Description
Banner was bred from Brewers Gold in the 1980's via open pollination at the World Hop Cultivar Collection, Corvallis, Orego, OSU East Farm.
Due to mildew problems, Banner wasn't released until 1996 as Anheuser Busch showed interest. It didn't fair well in tests and was eventually dropped from testing.
Poor storage and mildew issues have kept this from being a viable hop.
Substitution Tip
If you can't find Banner,
the best alternatives are
Aquila, Cluster, or Galena.
