Wakatu was developed by HortResearch's New Zealand Hop Research Program in an attempt to breed a new aroma hop. Bred from femail Hallertau and male New Zealand variety and released in 1988.
High myrcene levels contribute lime flavor. Named for the Maori name for Nelson, Whakatu.
